This is an ages-old technique that reaches deep into modern design aesthetics!
To begin, Diana (GIA-trained, @Daughter of The Raj!) will take you through the basics of wax carving including technical instructions, plus the qualities and properties of the tools & materials.
Then students will have hands-on practice with subtractive and additive methods while receiving personal attention from the Instructor. And since this class is for beginners, we’ll also teach methods for recovering from mistakes or cracks. At the end of the class, you’ll have a wax-carved ring, as a master, ready to be cast! Your Instructors will deliver the pieces to a local Casting Artist and retrieve them in time for the next class meeting, (approx.) two weeks later.
In the second session, each piece will be revealed and discussed. Then, pieces will be finished professionally by each student, according to their own taste.
As always, we aim to deliver a value-packed experience that teaches the “how” and “why” of jewelry techniques, so students may learn to work creatively, safely and independently.
Materials Fee: $30-$40 collected on-site via cash, credit card or debit card. (Depends on the weight of the ring)
Second Meeting: Two weeks after the first. Exact time to be discussed & decided in the first class.
